Hey guys – I just got an e-mail from your group today so I decided to check you out. I loved all of the posts I had time to read- and I’ll respond to just a few. I’m trying to do NaNo again this year to finish my novel, ‘Night Surfing – A Story of Love & Wonder in the Waves of Malibu’ which I began during last year’s contest, although they’re making it nearly impossible for me to sign in. Sooooo, like all determined writers, I’m simply working on my novel every day in my regular computer file as if I were connected to NaNo until they figure out the glitches. It’s a fun challenge, although I think because we know others are watching what we put out there, we tend to be slower than we would if we were just going along at our steady every day writing pace. I love that extra push though, as I’m sure many of you do. They’re up to 100,000 contestants this year so it’s obviously working for a lot of us. Your post on aging was interesting too. I’m close to that big 5 – 0 – age (scary) but luckily I’m usually in complete denial and have loads of young friends so I Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and text which probably isn’t the norm for us baby boomers. You know how they’re always saying 50 is the new 40, 40 is the new 30, blah…blah…blah…I’m starting to think mid-life is the new adolescence. We’ve got the hormone thing going on, we still think we know everything (more of course than our parents) and we still want to take risks, toss out nets out there just a little bit farther and want to lead a fun, fascinating life. Oh, and we still want to look hip and beautiful! Anyway, gotta get back to my NaNo challenge. It was fun connecting with all of you…Mary Kennedy Eastham, Author, ‘The Shadow of a Dog I Can’t Forget’ and the nove-in-progress, ‘Night Surfing – A Story of Love & Wonder in the Waves of Malibu’
