Facebook, Myspace, Grouply and more

Oy Vay!  What will I be asked to join next?

Linked In, that’s what. So far, it’s okay. Looks like a great place to network without a lot of nonsense.

I’ll try anything that sounds benign, knowing I can always unsubscribe if I need to. Facebook is history. All the virtual “gifts,” hugs, and invitations to play games just cut into my writing time and made me go grrr… Anything that  makes me growl has got to go.

MySpace on the other hand, I love. After finally getting the hang of it, I can easily check in a couple of times a week and update my blog, send news to all my friends at once, enjoy comments people leave and it’s always fun to make another friend. I may not have a lot of time to devote to it, but I enjoy the time I’m there.  Friend me~! www.myspace.com/ashlynchase

I’ve been warned away from Grouply so won’t even try it. I hear they pirate your address book so if someone send you an invitation, it may not have been sent by them at all!  Yikes! The Internet is a double edged sword.

What groups do you enjoy?

  1. Andy Swarbrick Says:

The negative Grouply comments you allude to are ill-informed. Grouply behaves as closely imaginable to way that Facebook, LinkedIn etc operate, by which I mean that as you sign up it offers you the opportunity to let others in your address book know about Grouply also. If you don’t want that to happen click “skip” (actually twice, once for your address book and once for groups you belong to) and that is the end of the matter. This “skip” is the same technique that Facebook, LinkedIn and a host of other social sites operate so if you are happy with them and want to access either or both Google Groups or Yahoo Groups in an integrated interface then Grouply is worth exploring. Just click skip.

Thanks for the extra info Andy. I guess some people skip the skip option and wind up inviting folks they hadn’t meant to.

I was able to see the addys from my address book prior to hitting the send button and only invite those I wanted to consider Linked-in.

Maybe instead of an opt out, it should be set up as an opt-in?

I’m not a big fan of facebook. It always asks me if I want to send a virtual “gift” to someone and then I find out they charge for it!

I’ll just stick with myspace too :)
